Get a FORESTER’S EYE VIEW of the woodlands with a hike along the trails at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Jim McGlone is an Urban Forest Conservationist for the Virginia Department of Forestry. He has spent the last 13 years working with the forests of Fairfax County and has extensive knowledge of the plants that grow here and how they fit with other parts of the forest. Urban Forests play an important role beyond recreation including reduced energy use, improved water quality, diverse wildlife habitat, and increased human health and well-being. Urban forests are an essential component of America’s “green infrastructure” . Learn about the secret life of trees as they communicate underneath the surface via Mycorrhizal networks now coined the World Wide Wood. Enjoy a beautiful forest walk, bring your tree questions and enjoy the beauty of the Fall foliage.
This is a Walk & Learn with a Subject Matter Expert. All ages are welcomed. Wear clothing suitable for the weather, insect/sun protection and bring water. FREE but MUST register in advance We start promptly at 1pm in LOT 1- Drive to the Filene Center Box Office and Volunteers will direct you to PARKING We have limited tickets to this event so if you must cancel, please do so by Wednesday so someone else can take your spot. Trails are uneven and can be slippery. This is a modest level hike activity with hills. We will walk approximately 2.5 miles. Participation is at your own risk. You acknowledge this by participating in this Event.
