MEET & GREET WITH WOLF TRAP NATIONAL PARK’S GARDENER, PHIL GOETKIN (now retired) AS HE GIVES US A BEHIND-THE-SCENES TOUR OF THE SUSTAINABLE GARDENS AT WOLF TRAP NATIONAL PARK including the Native Meadow, Shade Garden, Natural Habitats and the new Monarch Butterfly garden all designed to incorporate Native Plants and provide a sustainable environment to restore and preserve the Park’s natural resources. Master Gardeners from Green Spring Garden will be on hand to answer any questions about the plants or HOW TO BECOME A MASTER GARDENER. Bring your CAMERA and NOTEBOOK for jotting down some incredible knowledge. In late 2010, Phil initiated the construction of the Wolf Trap trail by engaging with the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club & supported the establishment of Friends of Wolf Trap National Park. After Phil retired from Wolf Trap National Park, he moved to the Eastern Shore & became President of the Eastern Shore Master Gardner Program. This Walk and Learn will show how Wolf Trap National Park is incorporating native plants into the landscape and why. TAKE-AWAY TIPS for your Own or Community garden. ALL AGES WELCOME!
Meet at the Filene Center Main Gate (Box Office) promptly at 10am (park in the Circle). Please dress appropriately for walking outdoors on uneven ground, the weather & bring drinking water. Event is RAIN OR SHINE.
